Warning connected to Mirena IUD

According to the Mayo Clinic, Bayer’s Mirena intrauterine device, which is inserted into the uterus for long-term birth control, is the only hormonal IUD with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval.

But the Mayo Clinic cautions that it isn’t appropriate for all women, and provides some conditions under which it shouldn’t be used.

Mirena lawsuit filed

A Pennsylvania woman has filed a federal lawsuit against Bayer over complaints that the German drugmaker failed to provide adequate warning of health risks associated with its contraceptive Mirena, Bloomberg reports.

Mirena is an intrauterine device that prevents pregnancy for as long as five years. According to the lawsuit that Tricia Prendergast filed in Philadelphia, Bayer doesn’t warn that it can become embedded in the body or cause an ectopic pregnancy. Regulators approve Bayer IUD

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Skyla, an intrauterine device manufactured by Bayer.

A Reuters report describes Skyla as a T-shaped polyethylene device that releases low doses of the hormone progestin, and is designed to prevent pregnancy for three years. It’s the first new device of its type to be approved in 12 years.

FDA OKs Bayer contraceptive for heavy bleeding

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the use of German corporation Bayer’s birth control pill Natazia for the treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding, according to RTTNews.
