Users of Aspirin Replaced With Acetaminophen at Risk for Serious Liver Failure

In the wake of the recent recall of 16,440 bottles of Enteric Coated Aspirin Tablets replaced with acetaminophen, a new study reports that patients with liver failure caused by an overdose of acetaminophen suffer from “significantly lower overall health” than patients with liver failure due to other causes. Merck To Pay Additional $23 Million To End Vioxx Litigation

On November 9, 2007 Merck agreed to a $4.85 billion global settlement in the Vioxx litigation. Bloomberg reports that Merck has now agreed to pay another $23 million for allegedly misleading their customers into buying their drug.

Tylenol/Acetaminophen MDL Formed to Address Liver Injury Lawsuits

A panel of Federal judges recently created a “Multi-District Litigation” to consolidate and speed up numerous Tylenol lawsuits that have been filed around the country. The proceeding, known as MDL 2436, was created by order of the United States Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation on April 1, 2013 and is currently assigned to U.S. District Judge Lawrence F. Stengel of the U.S. District Court in Philadelphia.

Officials See Rise in Emergency Room Visits Related to Prescription Stimulant Use

A recent NY Times article discusses a recent trend that shows an increase in the number of emergency room visits as a result of the use of prescription stimulants such as Adderall and Ritalin.
