CDC: Diabetes rates to skyrocket in coming decades

According to a story in the Huffington Post, federal officials are warning of an “alarming” increase in diabetes rates, projecting that as many as one in three U.S. adults could have the condition by 2050 if current trends continue.

Shares fall on announcement of diabetes drug risks

GSK applies for approval of diabetes drug

Reuters reports that GlaxoSmithKline, Britain’s largest pharmaceutical manufacturer, has filed for approval of a diabetes drug called albiglutide in both the United States and Europe.

The story says albiglutide is among a class of medicines that increase GLP-1, which is a hormone that stimulates insulin production from the pancreas.
