Institute starts campaign for stroke awareness

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke has started a campaign designed to minimize the damage caused by stroke, with the theme: “Know the Signs. Act in Time.”

The idea is to get out word about stroke symptoms, with the hope that bystanders can get medical help for a stroke victim as soon as possible, and reduce the chances for death or more severe disabilities such as paralysis.

Canadian health agency issues Yasmin warning

Bayer Yaz fund to cover uninsured legal costs

The $610.5 million Bayer set aside for Yasmin-related lawsuits this quarter is to pay the company’s costs beyond what insurance will cover for legal fees and accords, including cases that haven’t been settled, Bloomberg reports. Yaz lawsuits affect Bayer profits for 2nd quarter

Bayer’s second quarter earnings are down, largely because of costs associated with settling lawsuits from consumers who claim the pharmaceutical giant’s Yasmin line of birth control pills caused health problems, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports.
