$2.5 billion J&J hip settlement announced

Johnson & Johnson recently announced a $2.47 billion hip settlement through its DePuy subsidiary.

DePuy’s Articular Surface Replacement (ASR) hip implant was recalled in 2010. Now, an estimated 8,000 lawsuits are being filed over the device. The $2.47 billion settlement announced by J&J is likely to settle a large portion–though not all–of the pending cases.

First Federal DePuy Hip Replacement Trial Set to Begin

The National Law Journal is reporting that the first federal trial involving DePuy Orthopaedic Inc.’s metal-on-metal hip implant devices is set to begin on September 9, 2013 in Cleveland, Ohio. This is the first of nearly 8,000 cases currently being coordinated in a multidistrict litigation (MDL) before Judge David Katz.
