A St. Louis jury has awarded a Minnesota girl $15 million for numerous birth defects found to have been caused by the antiepileptic drug Depakote, which her mother took while pregnant. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has agreed to pay $1.5 million to settle a medical malpractice lawsuit, the Los Angeles Times reports. The lawsuit was filed in 2011 after the plaintiff was injured during gallbladder surgery at County-USC Medical Center.

Pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson has agreed to pay $7.8 million to settle a seven-and-a-half-year-old Risperdal lawsuit, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports. The state of Arkansas filed the lawsuit in 2007, alleging that Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, unlawfully marketed its antipsychotic drug Risperdal to Arkansas doctors.
