Latest Ford Recall Affects Over 800,000 Owners

ford recalls 800 thousand vehiclesOwners of a variety of Ford vehicles will want to pay attention to the corporation’s latest news as the automotive giant announced the recall of some 850,000 of its cars, trucks, and SUVs for a number of separate issues that affect each model differently.

Nearly 35,000 F-350 Super Duty trucks have been recalled over problems with their rear axles. The F-350 recall is especially concerning given that the vehicle is primarily used as a heavy-duty work truck and is capable of hauling and towing heavy loads. Given the work that the rear axle must endure during those times, any issue with its ability to successfully operate could have significant implications on the safety of the vehicle.

Over 40,000 Lincoln Aviators have been recalled over concerns that their battery cable wire harnesses are improperly secured. Failure of the harness could lead to electrical failure of the vehicle, as the connection would be lost between the vehicle and its battery.

Nearly three-quarters of a million Ford Explorers manufactured from 2013-2017 have been recalled over concerns of seizing cross-axis ball joints. The failures may have already led to six incidents with injuries, as the fault could break the vehicle’s rear suspension, thus making it incredibly difficult to control and significantly increasing the chances of a motor vehicle crash or collision. According to a press release issued by Ford, the seizing of the cross-axis ball joint would cause “a clunk noise, unusual handling, or a misaligned rear wheel.”

Notifications are set to be delivered to owners of the faulty vehicles in late August with dealers ready to inspect and repair faulty systems as need. Those owners living in areas with cold winters, high levels of humidity, and what Ford calls “substantial road salt use” are significantly more likely to have their vehicles recalled than those in other regions.
