Auxilium and Prasco Partner to Introduce Generic Testim

Auxilium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Prasco, LLC have partnered to introduce an authorized generic version of Testim, a drug for testosterone therapy. Testim is a drug prescribed to treat adult men who suffer from no or low testosterone, also known as Low-T.

Prasco already has inventory of its generic product and has begun shipping the drugs. Auxilium will maintain responsibility for the manufacturing of Testim and its distribution, and will now also accept liability for the generic version of Testim’s manufacturing and distribution.

Unlike many manufacturers of generic drugs, Auxilium could be held accountable if the generic version of Testim results in testosterone therapy lawsuits. Most other generic manufacturers fight product liability lawsuits if they are not the producers of the generic drug.

Auxilium Pharmaceuticals is in the midst of a legal battle regarding Testim. Testim is just one product of a handful of testosterone therapy drugs sparking lawsuits and subject to multidistrict litigation. The lawsuits allege that testosterone therapy products are linked to increased risk of heart attacks, strokes and other cardiovascular injuries.
