Dietary supplement found to contain harmful synthetic steroids

The FDA is advising all consumers to stop using the dietary supplement called “Mass Destruction” due to the presence of dangerous synthetic steroids. An FDA News Release reports that this product contains anabolic steroids and has been linked to at least one serious illness. Mass Destruction is manufactured for Blunt Force Nutrition and the FDA is now attempting to identify the product’s manufacturer.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reports of a 28-year-old male who experienced liver failure and required a liver transplant after using this product. The FDA is now conducting further analysis of the product to identify other dangerous ingredients.

A director in the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research stated “products marketed as supplements that contain anabolic steroids pose a real danger to consumers.” Consumers are advised to be wary of unexplained fatigue, abdominal or back pain, discolored urine, or other unexplained changes in health.

Synthetic steroids may cause very serious health issues and cause long-term, harmful consequences. Some risks include adverse effects on blood lipid level and an increased risk of heart attack or stroke. They may have the effect of masculinization or women, or infertility for males among other complications. Steroids also cause short stature in children.
