J&J Withdraws Motion Alleging Vaginal Mesh Lawsuit Solicitations

Last month, vaginal mesh manufacturer Johnson & Johnson filed a motion accusing plaintiffs’ lawyers of illegally soliciting clients for vaginal mesh lawsuits. This week Reuters reports that the motion has been withdrawn by J&J.

Women Want State’s Help in Pelvic Mesh Fight

A coalition of women who had received pelvic mesh implants that led to complications have asked the Texas Attorney General to pursue legal action against Johnson & Johnson, a large implant manufacturer. The women allege that Johnson & Johnson violated state law by practicing deceptive business practices including by not sufficiently warning women about the risks associated with transvaginal mesh implant or removal surgery.

$73 Million Awarded to Woman Injured by Boston Scientific Mesh Implant

After winning the first two trials over injuries allegedly caused by its Obtryx sling, Boston Scientific has been ordered to pay $73 million to a plaintiff in a Texas state court case. A Bloomberg story reports that this is the first award against this particular company because of a vaginal-mesh implant.

Pelvic Mesh Litigation Filings Continue to Accumulate

Philadelphia mass tort pelvic mesh filings are increasing steadily after the creation of a mass tort category for these cases in February. An article in The Legal Intelligencer reports that the largest accumulation of case filings occurred in June of 2014, when 375 cases were filed. This was followed by another 192 cases in July and several more thus far in August.

Bard Settles Vaginal Mesh Case Before Trial

Bloomberg.com is reporting that C.R. Bard Inc. has agreed to settle a claim involving one of the company’s vaginal mesh implants. The case involving a New Jersey woman’s claim that Bard’s Avaulta Plus insert caused her internal problems including urinary problems was scheduled to begin on September 23, 2013 in the Superior Court of New Jersey in Atlantic City.
