Illinois Suspends License of Psychiatrist for Overprescribing Medication

An Illinois psychiatrist had his license suspended for overprescribing a dangerous antipsychotic drug, clozapine, in nursing homes and mental health facilities. This overprescription of clozapine has been linked to three of his patients’ deaths. Emergency Department Visits Due to Common Sleep Aid Double in Recent Years

Zolpidem is a commonly prescribed sleep aid medication that is generally used to treat insomnia. The drug commonly known as Ambien has been involved in a large number of emergency room visits related to overmedication. The number of visits doubled from 21,824 in 2005-2006 to 42,274 in 2009-2010. Doctor Found Guilty of Manslaughter for Overprescribing Pills

A doctor in Queens, New York was been convicted of two counts of second-degree manslaughter and many lesser charges for overprescribing painkillers to two patients who later suffered fatal overdoses and other patients who were injured. The man faced 211 counts total and was found guilty on 200 of them.
