Anthrax Victim’s Family to Receive $2.5 Million Settlement from Government

The Associated Press reported today that the United States government has agreed to pay $2.5 million to settle a case brought by the family of Robert Stevens, who died after being exposed to anthrax in 2001. Stevens was one of four people who died during the attacks. Seventeen other people were exposed to anthrax and became sick. NHTSA investigating Chevy Volt after post-crash fire

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on Friday that it is opening a formal safety defect investigation into the Chevy Volt.

After conducting a standard crash test on the electric car, the NHTSA found that the vehicle’s battery was damaged and the coolant line was ruptured. A fire broke out a few weeks later and is being blamed on the battery. Follow-up tests demonstrated similar results.

Merck Pleads Guilty to Illegally Selling Vioxx

The New York Times reported today that Merck pled guilty to “illegally introducing a drug into interstate commerce” for its sale of Vioxx. As part of the plea, Merck entered into a larger settlement in which it agreed to pay $950 million. According to the New York Times, Merck will pay a $321 million criminal fine, while $628 million will go to the federal government and state medicaid agencies ...
