Ruling expected soon on cancers from 9/11

Dr. John Howard, director of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, is expected to soon issue a final rule on which cancers will be covered under the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, according to an article in Newsday.

Employer, manufacturer faulted in asbestos-related cancer case

An opinion piece in the Seattle Times concerns a shipyard worker diagnosed with mesothelioma – a type of cancer associated with asbestos exposure – and faults both the shipyard that employs him and the manufacturer of respirators used there for failing to adequately warn him.

Study shows link between asbestos, range of disorders

According to a report from the Australian Broadcasting Company, children exposed to asbestos may suffer more wide-ranging problems than mesothelioma and lung cancer.

The report concerns a study in which researchers from Western Australia analyzed health data from nearly 2,500 children who lived at Wittenoom, a now-abandoned town where crocidolite, or “blue asbestos,” was mined for nearly 20 years.
