Scientists at the Ronald Reagan UCLA medical center have identified an antibiotic-resistant bacteria that contributed to the deaths of two patients and may have infected 179 more, an LA Times article reports. The infection is believed to have been transmitted when patients were exposed to infected medical devices during a complex endoscopy procedure involving contaminated duodenoscopes.
