Attorney

Ms. Capouellez has been with Lopez McHugh, LLP, since the firm was founded in 2007 and carries on the tradition of success and high standards set by the founding partners Ramon Lopez and James McHugh, Jr., in the representation of individuals suffering serious injuries at the hands of others.

While attending Pennsylvania State University, Ms. Capouellez got her first taste of the legal profession while working as an assistant in a small law office devoted to the practice of family law. From working with legal talent willing to share their experience and foster interest in their profession, Ms. Capouellez soon developed a curiosity about law. After graduating from Penn State with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, Ms. Capouellez obtained a paralegal position in the Philadelphia office of a top-notch defense firm. That position allotted her an in-depth look into a fast-paced legal practice and a chance to explore many facets of the legal profession – including pharmaceutical and other mass tort litigation. It was not long until Ms. Capouellez made the leap to law school. In 2003, she received her Juris Doctorate from the Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law. She has been admitted into practice in both state and federal courts in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Following her admittance to the bar, Ms. Capouellez began working for the Medical Care Availability and Reduction of Error Fund, a section of the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance where she worked with physicians, hospital administrators and attorneys in defending and negotiating the settlement of malpractice claims in Pennsylvania. After that, Ms. Capouellez began working with Mr. McHugh and devoted her attention to working on behalf of critically injured individuals at The Beasley Firm, an elite Philadelphia law firm. Her caseload was primarily pharmaceutical products liability and mass torts cases, as well as medical malpractice actions.

Today, Ms. Capouellez specializes in pharmaceutical injury, products liability mass tort and medical malpractice litigation. She is currently heading up the firm’s pursuit of cases involving testosterone therapy and birth injuries resulting from use of SSRI antidepressants during pregnancy, as well as prosecuting cases involving Yaz/Yasmin/Ocella birth control, metal-on-metal hip replacements manufactured by Johnson & Johnson subsidiary DePuy Orthopaedics, and medical negligence claims throughout Pennsylvania. Ms. Capouellez has been involved in lawsuits against the manufacturers of various pharmaceuticals, including Vioxx®, a massive case that settled for $4.85 billion and benefited hundreds of Lopez McHugh clients. She also handled litigation involving the similar painkillers Celebrex® and Bextra®, and other complex litigation projects including Baycol®, Zyprexa®, Ephedra, contaminated heparin, and gadolinium-based contrast agents. She was one of the lead attorneys prosecuting an Ephedra case in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas in which the firm represented the family of a Philadelphia Police Officer who died prematurely following the ingestion of an Ephedra-based product. Along with partner James McHugh, Jr., Carrie served as liaison in the Philadelphia Gadolinium-Based Contrast Agent litigation.

Carrie is a member of the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, as well as the Philadelphia and Lehigh County Bar Associations. She is a member of the American Association for Justice. She has been named as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers® in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013. She has also been a Super Lawyer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania since 2014.
