Window seats on long flights increase clot risk

Sitting in a window seat during a long flight can increase the risk of deep vein thrombosis, according to the American College of Chest Physicians.

The Telegraph recently reported on the recommendations of an American College of Chest Physicians panel, which found the greatest risk of deep vein thrombosis — blood clots that usually form in the legs – on flights lasting more than eight hours.

According to The Internet Stroke Center, most warning signs for a stroke come on suddenly. The most common warning sign is sudden weakness of the face, arm or leg, usually occurring on one side of the body.

Lopez McHugh Lawyers Capouellez and Mankoff Named “Rising Stars” for Pa.

Super Lawyers, a national rating service of outstanding lawyers, has named Joshua Mankoff and Carrie Capouellez among its 2012 “Rising Stars” for Pennsylvania.

The Rising Stars designation is for lawyers who are 40 or under, or who have been practicing for 10 years or less.

FDA says azithromycin increases risk of heart death

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has notified healthcare professionals of a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine that found patients taking a widely used antibiotic are at higher risk for potentially deadly heart problems.

The study concerns Zithromax, the brand name for azithromycin, which is commonly prescribed for pneumonia and other common infections. The FDA announcement emphasizes that patients taking the drug shouldn’t stop without talking to their doctors.
