Purdue Pharma Unwilling to Disclose Information about Suspicious Doctors

Prescription drug abuse has become a widespread and serious issue. Purdue Pharma, the maker of the often abused painkiller OxyContin, claims that this is a result of pharmacy robberies, doctor-shopping, and medicine cabinet raids. A story in the LA Times reveals that the company has known of the role physicians play in overprescribing and has a database of the suspected doctors. But the company has not disclosed this information to authorities.

Philadelphia Jury Awards Large Verdict in Medical Malpractice Case

A Philadelphia jury has awarded the family of a child born prematurely a $42.9 million dollar award in a recent medical malpractice case. The verdict in Harris v. Chestnut Hill Hospital was announced on December 20, 2013. This medical malpractice case stems from injuries sustained by the Plaintiff following a premature birth at 25 weeks gestation. Further studies needed about risks of testosterone therapy

A report from CBS News suggests further studies are needed to assess the risks of testosterone therapy.

Testosterone therapy, also called androgen replacement therapy, was approved by the Food and Drug Administration as a way for men to improve health. However, there is little data on its long-term effects. Previous studies indicate that testosterone therapy is associated with an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and death.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently issued a warning to the public that Onfi carries a serious risk of skin reactions.

Onfi is an anti-seizure drug that is used in combination with other drugs to treat Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, a severe form of epilepsy. Medical Malpractice Lawsuits after Unnecessary Spinal Fusion Procedure

A recent article in the Washington Post examined a growing concern in the medical community, the drastic increase in certain types of surgical procedures and whether the are medically necessary. The article examined the  large increase of spinal fusion surgery in the Unites States over the past two decades with 465,000 spinal fusion procedures performed in 2011 up form 56,000 in 1994.
