Brilliant Blue G recalled over contamination concerns

The U.S. Food and Drug administration sent out a notice to physicians recently that Brilliant Blue G – a food dye that’s also been found to have medical applications — from Franck’s Lab is being recalled because of concerns over possible fungal contamination.

According to the notice, the FDA received reports that patients being treated with Brilliant Blue G have suffered fungal eye infections.

The dye has been used by eye surgeons to help them better differentiate various parts of the eye.
