Bayer suing over controversial birth control

Bloomberg reports that a unit of Bayer is suing generic drug manufacturer Watson Pharmaceuticals Inc. over allegations that Watson has violated a patent for Beyaz birth control pills.

A spokesman for New Jersey-based Watson said the company intends to contest Bayer’s claims.

Bayer has requested that a judge ban the sale of birth control pills based on the patent.

Beyaz and other birth control pills containing the compound drospirenone has served as the basis of lawsuits against German pharmaceutical giant Bayer, based on numerous studies indicating that the pills put users at increased risk of blood clots, pulmonary embolisms, strokes, or gallbladder removals, and that the company failed to warn women of those increased risks.

Birth control pills that contain drospirenone include Gianvi, Loryna, Ocella, Safyral, Syeda, Yasmin, Yaz, and Zarah.

Women who have suffered injury as a result of taking and of those pills may be eligible to recover damages. Contact Lopez McHugh for a free consultation. Call today because if you wait too long, you may be barred from recovering for your injuries by your state’s time limits.
